Always interested in creating a sustainable future, Quinn obtained a B.S. from UC Berkeley in Chemical Biology and focused on green chemistry, plant medicine, natural products, and environmental genetics. At Cal under Tom Bruns’ guidance they studied fungal metagenomics, investigating fungal diversity in Western US and African biomes. They then worked with Radiant Genomics (later acquired by Zymergen) genetically engineering microbes utilizing soil and environmental metagenomics to heterologously ferment natural products. Afterwards they moved into the cannabis space, working with BioMediCan to create a strain of Yarrowia lypolitica that synthesizes cannabinoids and with PAX Labs performing failure analysis and engineering at the intersection of analytical chemistry and hardware.
